I'm pretty picky about names for recipes here. Like, I won't tell you something is a "burger" if it's made from broccoli and falls apart at the touch of the hand. I won't call a loaf of almond meal "bread" because, let's face it, it's not.

Most importantly, I will NOT refer to a dessert or snack as "fudge" if it ain't FUDGEY. Thick. Creamy. Chocolatey. Rich.

Irresistible.

But what if it's made with protein powder and peanut butter? Yup - still counts.

Deception is one of my pet peeves. Not many things annoy me in this world, aside from constant tapping (think a pencil on a desk all throughout class) and deception, so I like to think I'm easily kept happy and not easily annoyed. With that in mind, I do my best to keep everything I share, do, say, etc. as transparent and clear-cut as possible.

This morning, I wanted a workout to kick. my. butt. And with all the Pinterest exploring I've been up to lately, I found some promising "torch calories" in less than 15 minutes . Luckily, my mornings aren't crammed like some others who I know, so I have time for longer workouts, and found a 45-minute Tabata workout (a style I hadn't yet tried) also promising to "torch calories".

Sounds good and fun and worthwhile to me!

Thankfully, the instructors kept me entertained, at least, because the workout did not live up to it's promise, if you ask me (which you didn't, I know, but still). Tabata is, well, interesting because it's 20-second bursts of intense exercise followed by 10 seconds of rest. I'm a HUGE fan of HIIT-style workouts, which Tabata is certainly, because I feel a certain high off of the exhaustion that follows the intensity, the short break, and the jump-right-back-into-it-ness of it all. However, Tabata didn't me much time to get my heart rate up before the 20 seconds finished and the 10 seconds rest came before I knew it. Not only that, but the exercises during the 20 seconds were things like plank holds, air squats, etc. which don't get my heart rate up.

Before I go any further, exercise is NOT all about the calorie-burn. It's, for me at least, a exhale of stress and exhaustion and an inhale of confidence and strength. I truly find physical activity - yes, even the stair-climbing and sprints and burpees - enjoyable for the heart-racing competition with myself, the drive to push my muscles harder, the pride in finishing all I could to the best of my ability.

Some workouts come locked and loaded with those enjoyable components - I don't have to think much. I "just do it", as they say. Buuuuut, some workouts require my own input in the form of more challenging moves.

Now that I think about it, though, the latter have the opportunity to yield me potentially more heart-racing competition, more drive, more pride at the end of it all because I NEED to push and convince myself that I am, well, more. I'm not just air squats and plank holds with a few jumping jacks for 45 minutes. (also not belittling those moves or anyone who considers them challenging - we are all at different stages in our unique bodies and that is a beautiful fact!)

I can think of at least one situation in my life right now in which I KNOW that I am MORE, and to be honest, I did not plan for this post to end this way but I'm so dang thankful I did. God obviously has the pen here.

In what situations should you remind yourself that you are more? That you can push harder? That you can run longer or even in another direction, if you must? Just some thoughts :)

And nowwwww you should whip up a batch of these fudgey protein-rich bites to help your muscles after whatever workout makes you happy today (or tomorrow whenever because they're freezer-friendly!).
