I hope to never in a million years with a billion cookies make dessert seem like a once-in-a-while-treat one needs to "earn". Since when does my body need to work extra hard and sweat and burn in order to rightfully eat a sweet snack? You'll probably get mixed answers from people if you ask around, but if you ask me (which you are, by reading this), nothing "extra" needs to be done to satisfy cravings of a beloved sweet tooth. 

Doesn't that feel so dang good to hear?? I hope it does!

So, why the heck did I create this cute little 10-minute workout for you to crush while the cookies bake? Not to force you into a calories-in/calories-out state of mind. Not to tell you that cookies are only allowed when calories are burned. Not to make you enjoy them any less or any more. But, if you're like me, you've seen days that leave you zero minutes and sometimes zero motivation to workout in any way, shape, or form - whether that be a typical Hump Day, a day of your monthly period, the day you lost your job (on which day cookies should certainly be included), or just a day full of to-do list items. On those days, cookies >> a workout, am I right or am I right? But with a workout this short, how can I say no? Besides, what else do I do besides salivate while the cookies bake, anyway? May as well move my body the way I like to!

As much as I lovvvvve longer workouts that leave me breathless and exhausted (and hungry), I've really been into the shorter, quicker, more intense variety of exercise lately. HIIT, Tabata, and even yoga sculpt have become a part of my weekly routine. This workout is only 8 minutes, which gives you time to clean up the kitchen once the cookies go in the oven + warm up before the workout + cool down afterwards + rehydrate before showing yourself some serious love with a fresh, warm blueberry cookie. 

Whole-Wheat Blueberry Almond Cookies

Makes 20 cookies

1 1/2 cups whole-wheat flour
1/2 cup honey
1/2 cup NuttZo Power Fuel smooth
1/2 cup blueberries (thawed if frozen)
1 flax egg
2 tbsp. coconut oil, melted
1 tsp. almond extract
1 tsp. sea salt, plus more for sprinkling
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda

  1. Preheat oven to 350F and line a baking pan with parchment paper. 
  2. In a large mixing bowl, stir together the flour, sea salt, cinnamon, and baking powder and baking soda. Set aside.
  3. In a medium-size bowl, whisk the honey, NuttZo, flax eggs, coconut oil, and almond extract. Pour into the dry ingredients and stir to combine. Gently fold in the blueberries, careful not to smash any. 
  4. Scoop portions about the size of an ice cream scooper or slightly smaller, roll into balls, and distribute evenly on the baking pan. Sprinkle each with sea salt and bake for 15-17 minutes, or until firm and golden brown. 
  5. Remove from oven and cool slightly before serving. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to one week. 
  6. Enjoy!
